The History of William Hill Manor
William Hill Manor was founded in 1981 when Dr. David Hill, a local dentist, purchased farm land from the once prominent State Senator A. Raymond Marvel. Dr. Hill, whose practice consisted of mostly senior citizens, realized that there wasn’t a structured retirement alternative on the Eastern Shore, leading to concern amongst many of his patients.
In 1981, William Hill Manor opened with 63 apartments and 15 cottages, along with a 60-bed comprehensive nursing facility. Over the years, the community grew and expanded its service offerings to eventually become a full scale continuing care retirement community, offering independent living, assisted living and nursing care on site.
In June, 2004, William Hill Manor was purchased by the not-for-profit corporation, EMA, which is headquartered in Eldersburg, Maryland. EMA is a Faith-Based Family of Retirement Communities and Resources. Other members of the EMA family include Fairhaven, Copper Ridge, The Copper Ridge Institute, and Buckingham’s Choice.
